WCF 4 Interview Questions and Answers

WCF 4 Interview Questions with Answers

WCF 4 -Windows Communication Foundataion interview questions are very important as wcf is widely used in almost all web applications today.Lets discuss some important WCF interview questions. This also includes basic as well as advanced interview questions on WCF 4.

1.What is WCF?
Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) is an SDK for developing and deploying services on Windows. WCF provides a runtime environment for services, enabling you to expose CLR types as services, and to consume other services as CLR types.

WCF is part of .NET 3.0 and requires .NET 2.0, so it can only run on systems that support it. WCF is Microsoft’s unified programming model for building service-oriented applications with managed code. It extends the .NET Framework to enable developers to build secure and reliable transacted Web services that integrate across platforms and interoperate with existing investments.

Windows Communication Foundation combines and extends the capabilities of existing Microsoft distributed systems technologies, including Enterprise Services, System.Messaging, Microsoft .NET Remoting, ASMX, and WSE to deliver a unified development experience across multiple axes, including distance (cross-process, cross-machine, cross-subnet, cross-intranet, cross-Internet), topologies (farms, fire-walled, content-routed, dynamic), hosts (ASP.NET, EXE, Windows Presentation Foundation, Windows Forms, NT Service, COM+), protocols (TCP, HTTP, cross-process, custom), and security models (SAML, Kerberos, X509, username/password, custom).

2.What are types of  contracts in WCF?
WCF defines four types of contracts.
1. Service contracts : Describe which operations the client can perform on the service.

2. Data contracts : Define which data types are passed to and from the service. WCF defines implicit contracts for built-in types such as int and string, but we can easily define explicit opt-in data contracts for custom types.

3. Fault contracts : Define which errors are raised by the service, and how the service handles and propagates errors to its clients.

4. Message contracts : Allow the service to interact directly with messages. Message contracts can be typed or untyped, and are useful in interoperability cases and when there is an existing message format we have to comply with

3.What are different isolation levels provided in WCF?
The different isolation levels:

1. READ UNCOMMITTED: – An uncommitted transaction can be read. This transaction can be rolled back later.

2. READ COMMITTED :- Will not read data of a transaction that has not been committed yet

3. REPEATABLE READ: – Locks placed on all data and another transaction cannot read.

4. SERIALIZABLE:- Does not allow other transactions to insert or update data until the transaction is complete.

4.What are the main components of WCF?
1.Service:The working logic or offering, implemented using any .Net Language.

2.Host: The environment where the service is parked. E.g. exe, process, windows service

3.Endpoints: The way a service is exposed to outside world.

5.What is the difference WCF and Web services?
1. Web services can only be invoked by HTTP. While Service or a WCF component can be invoked by any protocol and any transport type.

2. Second web services are not flexible. But Services are flexible. If you make a new version of the service then you need to just expose a new end point. So services are agile and which is a very practical approach looking at the current business trends

6.What are contracts in WCF?
The contract is a platform-neutral and standard way of describing WHAT the service does.
WCF defines four types of contracts,
1 Service contracts
2 Data contracts
3 Fault contracts
4 Message contracts

7.What are Service contracts?
Service contracts describe which operations the client can perform on the service in scope.

There are two types of Service Contracts.
1. ServiceContract - This attribute is used to define the Interface.
2. OperationContract - This attribute is used to define the method inside Interface.

8.What are Data contracts?
Data contracts define which data types can be passed to the service and in return which data types are expected back. WCF defines implicit contracts for built-in types such as int and string, but we can easily define explicit opt-in data contracts for custom types.

There are two types of Data Contracts.
1.DataContract - attribute used to define the custom class
2.DataMember - attribute used to define the custom properties.

In case the DataMember attribute is not specified for a property in the class, the same property can't be passed to the WCF service or can be returned by the WCF service

9. What are Fault contract?
The Fault Contract is a way to communicate error information from a service to a client.

10.What is Message contract?
WCF uses SOAP message for communication and there are situations when you need more control over the SOAP message format. In that case WCF provides Message Contract to customize the message as per requirement

11.What are the Security Modes in WCF ?
The Security Modes are stated below

No, you can create a cache of a report only when certain requirements, such as having credentials stored in the Report Server, are met.
6. Can you edit the .rdl code associated with a linked report?
No, because a linked report has no .rdl code of its own. It refers to the .rdl code of the base report
     7.What is reporting lifecycle ?
         Reporting Services has three mainly three phases
    1. Development of Reports (Developer) – First of all a report needs to be design which is primarily done by report developer
    2. Management of Reports (DBA) – Once the Report is being developed, DBA need to ensure
    3. Security – Only authorized user should access the report
    4. Execution – How the report will be executed to optimize data sources performance
    5. Scheduling of reports – so that report are executed on scheduled timings
    6. Report Delivery (DBA+Developer) – Once the report is being developed and executed now the report should be reached to final recipients (business users) who are going to understand / analyze report data. if any changes, we again go back to development stage.
8. What are the new features are introduced in SQL Server 2012 reporting services?

    1. Power View - interactive data exploration

1.What is Analysis Services

1.Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Analysis Services (SSAS) delivers online analytical processing (OLAP) and data mining functionality for business intelligence applications.
2.Analysis Services supports OLAP by letting we design, create, and manage multidimensional structures that contain data aggregated from other data sources, such as relational databases.
3.For data mining applications, Analysis Services lets we design, create, and visualize data mining models that are constructed from other data sources by using a wide variety of industry-standar data mining algorithms
2.What are the features of Analysis Services
1.Ease of use with a lot of wizards and designers.
2.Flexible data model creation and management
3.Scalable architecture to handle OLAP
4.Provides integration of administration tools, data sources, security, caching,    and reporting etc.
5.Provides extensive support for custom applications
3.What is the need for SSAS 2012 component?
1.Analysis Services is the only component in SQL Server using which we can perform Analysis and Forecast operations
2.Faster Analysis and Troubleshooting.
3.Ability to create and manage Data warehouses
4.Apply efficient Security Principles
4. What languages are used in SSAS 2012
1.Structured Query Language (SQL)
2.Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) - an industry standard query language orientated towards analysis
3.Data Mining Extensions (DMX) - an industry standard query language oriented toward data mining.
4.Analysis Services Scripting Language (ASSL) - used to manage Analysis Services database objects

5.What is the difference between a derived measure and a calculated measure?
  1. The difference between a derived measure and a calculated measure is when the calculation is performed.
  2. A derived measure is calculated before aggregations are created, and the values of the derived measure are stored in the cube.
  3. A calculated measure is calculated after aggregations are created, and the values of a calculated measure aren’t stored in the cube.
  4. The primary criterion for choosing between a derived measure and a calculated measure is not efficiency, but accuracy
6. What is FASMI ?
A database is called a OLAP Database if the database satisfies the FASMI rules
  1. Fast Analysis– is defined in the OLAP scenario in five seconds or less.
  2. Shared – Must support access  to data by many users in  the factors of Sensitivity and Write Backs.
  3. Multidimensional – The data inside the OLAP Database must be multidimensional in structure.
  4. Information – The OLAP database Must support large volumes of data.
    7.What is a partition?
  1.     A  partition in Analysis Services is the physical location of stored cube data.
  2.    Every cube has at least one partition by default. Each time we create a measure group, another partition is created.
  3.   Queries run faster against a partitioned cube because Analysis Services only needs to read data from the partitions that contain the answers to the queries.
  4.    Queries run even faster when partition also stores aggregations, the pre calculated totals for additive measures. Partitions are a powerful and flexible means of managing cubes, especially large cubes
      8. What are the roles of an Analysis Services Information Worker?
      The role of an Analysis Services information worker is the traditional "domain expert" role in business intelligence (BI) someone who understands the data employed by a solution and is able to translate the data into business information.The role of an Analysis Services information worker often has one of the following job titles: Business Analyst (Report Consumer), Manager (Report Consumer), Technical Trainer, Help Desk/Operation, or Network Administrator

   9.Explain the TWO-Tier Architecture of SSAS?
  1.   SSAS uses both server and client components to supply OLAP and data mining functionality BI Applications.
  2.   The server component is implemented as a Microsoft Windows service. Each instance of Analysis Services implemented as a separate instance of the Windows service.
  3.   Clients communicate with Analysis Services using the standard the XMLA (XML For Analysis) , protocol for issuing commands and receiving responses, exposed as a web service
    10. How many types of dimension are possible in SSAS?
  1.    Bill of Materials
  2.    Currency

MVC3 Interview Questions - Data Annotations

Q :- What are Data Annotations ? Why it is used ?
Ans : Data Annotations are attributes you find in System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace. The attributes provide server-side validation and the framework also support client-side validation when you use one of the attributes on a model property. Data Annotations are used to validate forms and user input when the form is posted by the user.

Q :- What are the different Data Annotation attributes ?

Ans : Following are the mostly used Data Annotation attributes :

  • Required - This attribute makes the property of model mandatory for user.
  • StringLength - The StringLength attribute specifies the maximum length of string that is acceptable.
  • RegularExpression - Regular expressions are an efficient and terse means to enforce the shape and contents of a string value.
  • Range - The Range attribute specified the minimum and maximum constraints for a numerical value.
  • Compare - The compare attribute ensures two properties on a model object have the same value.
  • Display - The Display attribute sets the friendly name for a model property.
  • ScaffoldColumn - The scaffoldColumn attribute hides a property from HTML helper such as EditorForModel and DisplayForModel.
  • MaxLength - MaxLength Attribute ensures the length of the string entered is according to the specified value.
  • DataType - The DataType attribute enables you to provide the run time with information about the specific purpose of a property.
  • UIHint - The UIHint attribute as the name itself suggest gives the Asp.net MVC run time the name of a template to use when rendering output with the templated helpers like (DisplayFor and EditorFor).
  • HiddenInput - The property that has HiddenInput defined on it will be rendered as input type hidden on form.

Q :- How to validate string length using Data Annotations ?
Ans : We use StringLength Data Annotation attribute to validate string lenth entered by the user. The StringLength attribute accepts a parameter which is the maximum length of string acceptable.

eg :

In the above image, we have applied StringLentgh Data Annotation attribute to FirstName property of model. We have supplied 10 as length. When the string length entered by user is more than 10, the validations fails and error message is shown to the user.

Q :- How to validate email address using Data Annotation ?
Ans : We use RegularExpression Data Annotation attribute to validate email addresses. This attribute accepts a pattern which is validated against the email provided by the user. If the pattern and email matches the validation passes, other wise error message shown to the user.

eg :

In the above example, we have define a pattern for Email property of model. This pattern is used to validate the email entered by the user.

For more info visit below link :

Q :- How to validate number range using Data Annotation ?
Ans : The Range attribute is use to validate the number range. This attribute accepts minimum and maximum range values. This attribute is use to validate properties like AGE.

eg :

In the above example, we have specified 20 and 40 as minimum and maximum values. The validation fails if the value entered by user is outside the above specified range.

For more info visit below link :

Q :- What is the difference between Range and Stringlength Data Annotation attribute ?
Ans : There is a major difference between the two even thought both validates the numeric measure.

StringLength validates the count of the string entered wherease the Range attribute validates the range i.e. whether the user input is between given range.

StringLength attribute is use to validate properties like Password or Firstname where we don't want user to specify the value more that particular length. Range attribute is used to validate property like Age where we want to user to specify age between given range.

Q :- What is the use of UIHint Data Annotation attribute ?
Ans : The UIHint attribute gives the Asp.net run time, name of the template to use while rendering control using the template helpers like (DisplayFor, EditorFor).
The UIHint attribute accepts the name of the Editor Template to render control for model property.

eg:

When the form or page is rendered, the editor template named Gender is used to render controls or HTML for Gender property.

For more info visit below link :

Q :- How to show error message on UI when Data Annotation validation fails ?
Ans :
1. We use ValidationSummary helper to show the error messages on UI.

For more info visit below link :

When we use HTML helper like EditorForModel to render the form, then the error messages are shown alongside the controls without using ValidationSummary helper.

For more info visit below link :

Q :- How to show multi Language error messages with Data Annotation ?
Ans : We can use the attributes provided by each DataAnnotation attribute. These attributes are :

ErrorMessageResourceType and ErrorMessageResourceName.

eg :

In the above example, we are picking the error message from resource file. The above excepts a resource file with name Multi with key MaxLength_ErrorMessage holding the error message. When validation fails, the system picks error message from resource file.

Q :- What is Required attribute ? Why it is important ?
Ans : The Required attribute is the most basic and important Data Annotation attribute. This attribute as the name suggests makes the property of model mandatory for user to answer. When the value is not provided the error message is shown to the user.

eg :

In the above example, we have applied Required Data Annotation attribute to the FirstName property. The FirstName property is mandatory for user to answer.

For more info visit below link :

Q :- How to use Data Annotation attribute with model ?
Ans : First we need to include System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations namespace.
We can apply Data Annotation attribute to each property in the model class.

eg :

Q :- What is the significance of ModelState while using DataAnnotation ?
Ans : We check the validity of ModelState to determine whether the Data Annotation validation is failed or not.

ModelState becomes invalid of the Data Annotation validation fails.

eg :

In the above example, we have checked if the ModelState is valid or not. If it is valid then we are rendering the view without passing model, but when the ModelState is invalid we are passing model object with errors to the view.

Q :- What are Custom Data Annotation attributes ?
Ans : We can create our own Custom Data Annotation attributes to validate as per our needs. We need to inherit ValidationAttribute class and override IsValid() method to create simple validation attribute.

eg :

In the below link we have created a custom attribute to validate email address :

Q :- What is the use of ScaffoldColumn Data Annotation attribute ?
Ans : The ScaffoldColumn attribute hides the property from HTML hepler like EditorForModel and DisplayForModel.
This attribute accepts a boolean parameter. With this attribute in place the EditorForModel helper will not render the control for property for which this attribute is set to false.

eg :

We have applied the attribute to Age property of model. When the form is rendered the Age property will be ignored by the helper.

In the above view we have used EditorForModel helper to render the form for model.

As mentioned earlier the Age property is not rendered on the form.

CSS Interview Questions ans answers with demos

  • Following are CSS questions and answers which would help you in brushing up your CSS skills .
  • These questions are important and covers basic concepts.

1. What is CSS ?
Ans : CSS stands for Cascading style sheet. CSS is used to apply good look to HTML document or a Web Page.

2. What are different ways to integrate CSS into a Web Page ?
And : Following are three ways of integrating CSS into a web page.

  • Inline : We can apply inline style by using style attribute. We can use this attribute at element or control level.
Demo :

  • Embedded : We create a style section inside the head section. This section is used for entire web page.
Demo :

  • Linked/External : In this method, we create a stylesheet .css file and link it to the web page using Link element. The syntax for linking the CSS file is shown below :
<link rel="stylesheet" href="style.css" type="text/css" />

3. What are advantages and disadvantages of using external style sheet.
Ans:
Advantages :
  • Reusability - The style of multiple documents or webpages can be maintained by single CSS file.
  • Maintainability - The CSS file is simple to maintain.
Disadvantages :
  • Download Overload - The CSS file need to download for style. The style will not apply until the file is downloaded.
  • Not Worth - It is not viable for small style definitions. For small style it is better to define them inline.

4. What are advantages and disadvantages of using Embedded style sheet.
Ans:
Advantages :
  • We can create classes for multiple elements on the page.
  • No extra download of file is required.
Disadvantages :
  • This type of applying style is not reusable. Its scope is withing the document or web page only.
5. What are advantages and disadvantages of using Inline style sheet.
Ans:
Advantages :
  • It is use for smaller style definition.
  • The style defined at inline level overrides the style defined at embedded or external level.
Disadvantages :
  • This method does not separate style information and content.
  • Styles for multiple document cannot be maintained.
  • Control classes cannot be created to control style of multiple elements on web page.
6. How to remove the border from images or any other element ?
Ans: We can use the border CSS property. We can set it to none as shown below :

img{border:nonw;}

7. What is CSS Selector ?
Ans: The selector is something which selects the element or set of elements from document. The selectors are use to apply CSS style to selected or specific elements.

eg:

  • id Selector - Id selector selectes the element whose id matches the selector. It id of the element to be selected is preceded with the "#" symbol.
#myDiv
{
color:Red;
}

The above syntax will apply the Red color to the element with id attribute set to myDiv.

  • class Selector - We can define a class using .preceding the name of class. This selector selects all the elements on the page.
.myDiv
{
color:Red;
}

The above syntax will apply the Red color to all the elements on the page with class myDiv.

  • element Selector - We use the element name itself to select a particular set of elements.
p
{
color:Red;
}

The above syntax selects all the paragraph element from the page and applies the red color to it.

8. What is Tweening ?
Ans:
  • Tweening is short form for in-betweening.
  • It is the process of generating intermediate frames between two images. It is the important method used in animations.
  • It gives the impression that first image is evolved into the second image.
  • The CSS3 properties like transform(matrix,translate,rotate,scale) can be used to achieve tweening.
9.What is difference between background-color and color CSS properties ?
Ans:

  • The background-color property is used to set the background or back color of any element.
  • The color property is used to set the color of text in any element.
Demo :

10. Explain grouping in CSS ?
Ans: The term grouping is using or grouping more than one selector together. While applying CSS we can group two selectors together to reuse the defined CSS properties.

eg:

p,div,span

{
color:Red;
font-style:italics;
}

Demo :

11. What are child selectors in CSS ?

Ans: The child selector is used when you want to select an element which is child of another element. The parent and child element is separated by greater than sign. Ths syntax is shown below :

eg:

div > p

{
color:Red;
}

The above code applies the red color to the text inside p element only.

Demo :

12. What are pseudo classes?
Ans: Pseudo classes allow you to identify HTML elements on characteristics (as opposed to their name or attributes). The classes are specified using a colon to separate the element name and pseudo class. A good example is the :link and :visited pseudo classes for the HTML A element. Another good example is first-child, which finds an element’s first child element.

The following CSS makes all visited links red and green, the actual link text becomes yellow when the mouse pointer is positioned over it, and the text of the first element of a paragraph is bold.

eg:

a:link {font-color: red;}

a:visited {font-color: green;}
a:hover {font-color: yellow;}
p.first-child {font-weight: bold;}

13. How to define comments in CSS ?

Ans: The text defined inside /* and */ is considered as comments. The browser ignores the comments.

It allows to fetch few or all of website contents such as HTML files, CSS, images, JavaScript, etc. locally. This feature speeds up the site performance. This is achieved with the help of a manifest file defined as follows:

eg:

<!doctype html>
<html manifest="example.appcache">
.....
</html>

11. What are the void elements in HTML5 ?

Ans: area, base, br, col, command, embed, hr, img, input,keygen, link, meta, param, source, track, wbr.

12. What is the purpose of HTML5 versus XHTML?

Ans: HTML5 is the next version of HTML 4.01, XHTML 1.0 and DOM Level 2 HTML. It aims to reduce the need for proprietary plug-in-based rich internet application (RIA) technologies such as Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, Apache Pivot, and Sun JavaFX. Instead of using those plugins, it enables browser to serve elements such as video and audio without any additional requirements on the client machine.

13. What is difference between HTML and HTML5 ?

Ans: HTML5 is nothing more then upgraded version of HTML where in HTML5 supports the innovative features such as Video, Audio/mp3, date select function , placeholder , Canvas, 2D/3D Graphics, Local SQL Database added so that no need to do external plugin like Flash player or other library elemenents.
14. What are advantages of using HTML5 ?
Ans: Following are the few advantages of using HTML5 :
a) Cleaner markup than earlier versions of HTML
b) Additional semantics of new elements like <header>, <nav>, and <time>
c) New form input types and attributes that will (and in Opera’s case, do) take the hassle out of scripting forms.
15. What is the major improvement with HTML5 in reference to Flash?
Ans: Flash is not supported by major mobile devices such as iPad, iPhone and universal android applications. Those mobile devices have lack of support for installing flash plugins. HTML5 is supported by all the devices, apps and browser including Apple and Android products. Compared to Flash, HTML5 is very secured and protected. That eliminates major concerns that we have seen with Flash.
16. How to store data on client in HTML5?
Ans : we can store data using HTML5 Web Storage.

1.LocalStorage

<script type="text/javascript">
localStorage.name="Raj";
document.write(localStorage.name);
</script>

2.SessionStorage
<script type="text/javascript">
sessionStorage.email="test@gmail.com";
document.write(sessionStorage.email);
</script>

17. What does <hgroup> tag do?

Ans: hgroup tag groups together the heading elements i.e. h1-h6.
eg:
<hgroup>
<h1>Hello</h1>
<h2>How r u?</h2>
</hgroup>

18. What are the HTML5 tags and how to use them ?
Ans: Refer following link for HTML5 tags :
